The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce has made housing a key element of the economic growth strategy. A number of programs are available for communities to encourage more construction in order to help provide more inventory to hopefully reduce costs and make purchasing more approachable. The Manhattan City Commission approved one of those programs, Reinvestment Housing Incentive District, on May 20th for a project on Little Kitten near Kimball. This district would work similar to a TIF, in that the additional tax revenues could be put back into the project for a period to lower the cost for the home buyer.
The Chamber testified in favor of the project. Read the Chamber’s full testimony at https://www.manhattan.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=267.
